More Money Spent On Arthritis Than Any Other Time In History.

Did you know that we’re spending more on doctor’s appointments, meds, and surgery for arthritis than any other time in history.  It’s true.

Arthritis is the most common cause of disability in the world, limiting the activities of  millions of adults. The word arthritis actually means joint inflammation. The term arthritis is used to describe more than 100 rheumatic diseases and conditions that affect joints, the tissues which surround the joint and other connective tissue. The pattern, severity and location of symptoms can vary depending on the specific form of the disease. Typically, rheumatic conditions are characterized by pain and stiffness in and around one or more joints. The symptoms can develop gradually or suddenly. Certain rheumatic conditions can also involve the immune system and various internal organs of the body.

There are many types of arthritis – among the more common being:

  • mon-articular arthritis, which as the name implies, is a type of arthritis which involves only one joint.
  • poly-articular arthritis, which attacks a number of joints, usually associated joints, i.e. both hips or both knees or, in some cases, all the joints of one leg or arm.
  • osteo- or degenerative arthritis, which is a chronic joint disease characterised by loss of some of the joint’s cartilage and some spur formation.
  • rheumatoid arthritis, which is a chronic arthritis usually associated with hormone deficiency.
  • gouty arthritis, which is popularly associated with the big toe

So arthritis is not just one disease it covers a myriad of conditions including rheumatoid arthritis, gout, osteoarthritis, lupus, fibromyalgia, just to name a few. Arthritis makes simple activities like walking, sitting, tying a shoe lace, or buttoning a shirt or blouse just plain torture. It strikes with a sharp almost knife-like pain. It robs you of vitality and time. The quality time that you could be spending with family and friends is too often spent in agony and distress.
